Cuomo continued his crusade to raise the minimum wage to $11.50 in New York City and $10.50 in the rest of the state, saying that too many people believe being born poor means they will remain poor, The Times reported.

The recently re-elected governor's new education initiative included several initiatives, including the expansion of charter schools and improvements to the current methods of evaluating teachers, The Times reported.

Cuomo also broke from form and released a proposed spending plan that included $1.3 billion to help stabilize the New York State Thruway Authority and help to fund the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge, The Times said.

Assemblyman David Buchwald, (D-District 93)  applauded the governor's proposed initiatives.

“The Governor’s proposed ‘circuit breaker’ will help relieve the tax burden so Westchester families aren't pushed out of the communities we love. And further increasing the state’s minimum wage would complement this tax break," Buchwald said in a statement. "Additionally, the Governor outlined plans to make much-needed upgrades and repairs to our infrastructure to make our roadways and bridges safer for the hardworking families that rely on them every day."

Buchwald represents Bedford, Harrison, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and White Plains.
