WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Republican gubernatorial nominee and Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino labeled Andrew Cuomo "the most corrupt governor in history" on Wednesday and called for an expedited investigation in light of a New York Times investigation report that revealed Cuomo staffers interfered with the Moreland Ethics Commission.

The three-month Times investigation revealed aides to Cuomo compromised the efforts of the commission created by Cuomo to root out government corruption.

The commission culled a list of officials who were taking advantage of the system, but Cuomo's camp objected whenever a person or entity would come up that had ties to the governor, The Times reported.

"This is obviously very serious," Astorino said in a phone conference with the media from Aspen, Colo., where he is attending the Republican Governors' Association (RGA) Executive Roundtable meeting. "It will likely end up resulting in indictments and criminal charges."

The charges, he said, would be vast, but obstruction of justice would be one of the first.

Cuomo ultimately disbanded the Moreland Commission well before its planned 18-month lifespan, but now has federal prosecutors looking into what the commission found, The Times said.

If Cuomo is found guilty of interfering by federal prosecutors, Astorino said he would call for the governor's resignation.

"If he broke the law, and it appears he may have, he shouldn't remain in office," he said. "The process has to play out in the legal system, but it is incumbent on federal prosecutors to expedite this so everyone can get an answer before the election."

Cuomo is still leading by a wide margin in polls of NY voters. However, Astorino believes the numbers may also reflect corruption.

"(Cuomo) is the most corrupt governor in history. His lead in the polls is dirty and corrupt. It's based on a big lie," he said.

Astorino said he personally believes Cuomo was fully aware that his top aide Larry Schwartz actively interfered with subpoenas and investigations.

The county executive also called on Cuomo to immediately hold a press conference on the issue.

Astorino said he hopes to chat with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in Aspen.

After Christie described Astorino's gubernatorial campaign as a "lost cause," Astorino said Christie should resign as head of the RGA.

"Gov. Christie and I are friends," he said. "But I reiterate what I said. His job is to help Republican governors get reelected and Republican candidates get elected. It would be very convenient for him to come across the river."

Astorino had also previously suggested Cuomo and Christie were working together to protect themselves against fallout from Bridge-gate.

When asked if he believed Cuomo may have played a larger role in the scandal, he said, "It's no secret the Port Authority is represented by the governors of both states and their respective staffs."

New York has gotten itself into a "Road to hell is paved with good intentions" problem. After years and years of liberalism, with loads of rules designed to "protect the worker" (see scaffold law mess) and "limit corporate profits (see GML 103 paragraph 5 and other similar stupidity), we have turned the apple cart over. We have more problems with corruption and crony capitalism than the more moderate to conservative states. This is the paradox of liberalism, is that if you go to far with it, it ends up causing the same kinds of damage that it is supposed to protect us from!

Have a look at this and spread it around:

This is an international effort I am working on, but the criticisms I make are very relevant in New York state. We represent the worst-of-the-worst when it comes to over-use of discretion and lack of accountability.

It amazes me that only 1 TV station has even mentioned this story and that was a 20 second blurb stating Cuomo had made a statement about it. When the Christie “bridge scandal” happened the “news” devoted 20 minutes every day for weeks about it. The media is so damn bias I can’t stand it anymore. If this was a republican they would be looking to impeach him. This guy is so corrupt he had to dump his own committee, imagine the nerve of them to investigate where they actually see corruption!!!

On a somewhat related Topic - HUD. What they are trying to do is just Bully Westchester for their own Political Power. If we don't keep local zoning, it's all over. This happened to a friend of mine - They worked hard to buy a house to start a family. Sec 8 came in & bought the house next door. It soon became a crack house, her kids could not play outside for fear of needles, etc.. They had to sell to get away, but presto, too late, the value of their home already decreased. They were forced to leave the State to find affordable living. But hey, guess what ? The dems just got more voters as I think about 20 people moved into that little house - yes, this happened in Westchester! Coming to a neighborhood near you.

The people of Westchester and NYS don't need corrupt politicians ! I propose a bill that would rid Westchester and NYS of all corrupt politicians. Who needs a dysfunctional government that loots us taxpayers each day? We dont need 6000 county employees to run westchrster county or over 100 thousand employees running Albany ! Its time for change. We need to swipe out corruption and misconduct on every level of government.
We need to step up to the plate now and do something thats effective that will rid
The people of these corrupt politicians, lawyers, cops, etc.
NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW !

Pot, meet kettle.

What has happened to Rob Astorino? He's allowed the foolish Republican Party hack leadership first to con him into thinking he could beat Cuomo, and now to overreach with statements like this. Here's a guy who could have been a real statewide Republican leader, and now, he's gonna fizzle because of overripe political advice. What a shame. Most corrupt in NY history??!! Read up, Rob. There's a very long line, many Republican.

Cuomo may not be the most corrupt Governor in NY history, but he's probably the most corrupt Governor in recent years. Just as Andy Spano was the most corrupt WCE in recent years.

Rob wants the title of "Most Corrupt"

re: Politicians....Westchester County has already taken in immigrant children, but of course they won't into Manhattan's elite schools. All this talk about the 1%, plz the 1% are doing away with the middle class as we speak.

This is what I hate about politics. Tell me what you're going to do? How? Show me the figures - now show me what you've done - what you haven't done - don't bash anyone else - it makes you look weak. I find this so childish. Wait, let me take that back - we teach children to "work it out" - this is just ridiculous. So much wasted time and money.

And Christie's comments are despicable. He is head of Republicans Gov's and he's called Astorino a lost cause. We all know NY is liberal, but he should not have said that.

while we all agree Cuomo has to go unfortunately in this heavily favored Democratic state I don't see Astorino winning even though I think we need him or someone other than Cuomo....

Even my old high school buddy who served in the army and worked in Albany said that in his 25 yrs working for the State he felt that Cuomo was corrupt and so
was Albany !

People wonder why Westchester County is the highest taxed County in our Country? The simple answer is corruption !

Iv been litigating in the courts
Against corruprion for decades and it has not been easy because these corrupt politicians hire high powered law firms to cover up there misconduct. I only wish I had the opportunitie to fight corruption on a higher level.

I personally would not vote for either candidate. I believe they both have some serious issues which should be investigated by the feds.
We need to clean up NYS and
Set tougher standards for all politicians to follow that includes holding them to a much higher standard of accountability because of their position of trust ! We need to monitor and have better control over all politicians. We need term limits and we need to super charge that committee on corruption to give them more power to over see all aspects
Of corruprion or misconduct.
Give rewards to all whistle blowers and protection from retaliatiin. We need to do morw to fight corruption on every level of our government
And we need to make no acceptions to the rule. Judges, lawyers, D.A.s, etc.

Alot of politicians are corrupt
But noone does anything about it and if your a citizen of the USA, you can't even bring an action against a corrupt politician cause of the strict standards that protect them in federal courts. A plaintiff has a tough batrle just to survive a defedants motion to dismiss thanks to recent U.S. Supreme Court cases which make it impossible to survive a rule 12 b 6 motion.

And the uneducated get caught up in the divisiveness of both parties.BTW Obama is catching a huge break from the immigrant scandal due to the Plane incident. Rome is burning, and I am clearly frustrated.

Cuomo was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Paul Adler corruption trial in the early 1990s. He skated then (as he was not yet in politics and his Daddy was governor). In the 1990s, he was Clinton's HUD secretary. You can connect the dots from his tenure to the 2007 housing market crash. He has yet been called to account. Why? He's a Democrat. He gets a free pass from the corrupt leftist media.

Christie is a Manchurian Republican, nothing more than a RINO. Sure he has got charisma, but not enough to fool all of the people. Take a bet the NYT will prompt him up as the best Republican with a chance to win the White House only to fool you into thinking that, i.e. same thing they did with John McCain. As for Westchester, Astorino is the man to lead.

Glass houses Rob......

What is remarkable and sad is that democrats will still support this guy. What i found ironic is Cuomo wanting to add a Women's Equality Party line to the ballot, the same Gov. who turned his head when our tax dollars were going to pay hush money to the abusive politicians caught harassing women. Lets AIM high New York.

whats with the 15 year old picture of cuomo? he looks decent, i guess all the lying and stress has made him so ugly today!

Astorino for Governor

Bobby you gunna lose.. not just lose...lose big as in landside. Even other GOPers lose ya gunna lose. Why not go out with some class?

I want to read about Astorino's father and the influence he had on his son.

They're both corrupt. After all they're politicians and that goes with the territory.

The truth hurts, right Andy Boy? You were corrupt as head of HUD under the corrupt Clinton. And you are corrupt today.

Way to call him out, Rob.

Cuomo has got to go if NY ever has any hope of recovering from years of mismanagement and pandering to special interest. Hopefully, his corrupt connection will not be able to squash this investigation. There is plenty of corruption to be exposed. Start with Sheldon Silver's activities.
