Yonkers Woman Uses Sister's Name To Avoid DWI, Police Say

YONKERS, N.Y. -- A Yonkers woman allegedly attempted to use her sister's name in an effort to avoid getting arrested for driving while intoxicated in Dutchess County on Saturday, Nov. 22, according to officials.

Mercedes Castro, 43, allegedly struck a sign on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls. She was reportedly on her cellphone at the time of the accident and broke off the passenger-side mirror on her vehicle, police said. 

After providing a breathalyzer sample with a blood alcohol content of 0.10 percent, Castro allegedly attempted to use her sister's name to avoid arrest, police said. 

Castro is scheduled to appear in the Wappingers Falls Village Court on Thursday, Dec. 4, police said.
