Yonkers Police Stage School 'Active Shooter' Drill

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Police performed the first-ever "Active Shooter" drill in city schools on Tuesday, Jan. 7, according to LoHud.com.

The drill began with an announcement that there was a gunman in the school, which immediately put schools into lockdown situations. Police officers, sharp shooters and K-9 units then searched the school for the "gunman," LoHud.com reported. 

The drills are in response to the school shootings at Newtown, Conn. and Centennial, Colo., according to LoHud.com.
