Police said there were at least three incidents in which a man snatched a gold chain from around the neck of a female victim. All the reported robberies took place in the area of Public School 23, on Van Cortlandt Park Avenue, and Yonkers Middle School, near Rockland Avenue.

The first, police said, was on Oct. 26 when a young woman was walking in the area of Cerrato Lane and Spruce Street. A man asked her for directions to Yonkers Middle School then grabbed a gold chain from her neck and ran away, police said.

Less than a month later, on Nov. 16, police said another female walking near 40 Van Cortlandt Park Ave. was approached by a man who asked for directions to P.S. 23. Again, the man grabbed a gold chain from around her neck and ran away.

Then on Dec. 3, near the area of Spruce and Alder streets, a young woman was approached by a man who demanded her gold chain. The suspect was able to break the chain and managed to flee with part of it, police said.

In all three incidents, police said the suspect was described as a thin black man, approximately 20 years old and 6 feet tall. In all the thefts the man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, police said.

One victim described the suspect as possibly having a tattoo on the right side of his face.
