Yonkers Police Identify Human Skeletal Remains Found Wrapped In Carpet

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Police have identified the person whose skeletonized remains were found wrapped in a rolled up carpet in Yonkers earlier this year.

Police were dispatched to 165 Bruce Ave. at approximately 4:30 p.m. on June 5, where there were reports of the remains. Preliminary reports found that the remains were possibly discarded at the location where they were discovered.

A watch and ring were also recovered in the remains that were found in the carpet.

Following a lengthy investigation, the Yonkers Police Department has identified the remains of that of Michael Newman, also known as Michael Nuwen, a middle-aged resident of Westchester County.

With the identity revealed, police are asking that anyone who recognizes Newman to contact the Yonkers Police Department Detective Division by calling (914) 377-7724 and referencing case #2017-062205.
