Shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, police were involved in an early morning pursuit of an unknown suspect who failed to yield to patrol. During the course of the chase, the 2000 Honda Civic drove onto Hyatt Field from the dead end of Potter Road, causing damage to the playground.

After crashing through the playground equipment, the driver drove through Hyatt Field, causing minor damage to the grass, crashed through the southern fence, snapping a chain and pulling fence stakes out of the ground. The cost of damages has not yet been determined.

According to the police report, the driver was identified as Hispanic, with dark color hair, and was the only person in the vehicle. Eastchester and Yonkers police canvassed the area for the Honda with negative results and the it was later pursued by Westchester County Police before the NYPD took over in the Bronx.

“Given the operator’s initial suspicious conduct and his determination to flee police in a reckless manner upon initial observation, criminal conduct is suspected on the part of the operator.”

On Thursday, Scarsdale Police Capt. Thomas Altizio announced that the vehicle - which was reported stolen to the NYPD by its owner - was located by detectives in the Bronx, towed back to Scarsdale and impounded. Detectives subsequently received a search warrant and recovered stolen property and forensic DNA evidence.

The investigation into the driver’s identity is ongoing, with Scarsdale detectives working with nearby police departments that have experienced criminal activity involving the same white Honda that was involved in last week’s pursuit.
