UPDATED 4:15 p.m. YONKERS, N.Y. -- A Yonkers man surrendered to police on the night of Feb. 23 after allegedly shooting an acquaintance outside of his apartment last week, according to police officials.
Detective Lt. Patrick McCormack said a warrant had been given for James Hayes, 43, who allegedly shot the 37-year-old victim in his left shoulder as he was exiting his car in the area of 150 Parkway North.
Yonkers police had initially received a warrant on Feb. 21 after investigations concluded Hayes was known to the victim , and the two had previously had a dispute.
According to McCormack, Hayes voluntarily surrendered at the police station along with his attorney. He is currently in custody, facing a first degree assault charge, but that could be changed or elevated in coming days.
The victim, who returned to his car after the shooting and fled the scene to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, was treated and released.
