Yonkers Man Sentenced For Shooting, Killing 22-Year-Old Unarmed Victim

YONKERS, N.Y. - A Yonkers man may be spending the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced for shooting and killing his unarmed victim in the back.

On Tuesday, acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced that Eryc Hairston, 26, has been sentenced to 22 years to life in prison after being found guilty of a second-degree murder charge earlier this year.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on July 8 last year, Hairston open fired at his victim on Waverly Street in Yonkers, striking him twice and killing him. The Yonkers Police Department launched an extensive investigation, and he was arrested in New York City two weeks later.

Hairston has been remanded to the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.
