YONKERS, N.Y. -- A Yonkers man was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison on Tuesday, June 10, after pleading guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated, according to Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore.

Mario Garcia-Sura, 49, was operating his 2001 black Ford Mustang convertible along Riverdale Avenue while he was intoxicated in October. Garcia-Sura collided with a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Sreeraj Chandran, who later died as a result of his injuries, the District Attorney's Office said.

Garcia-Sura pleaded guilty to the charges in April and will spend anywhere between five and 15 years in prison.

We are so glad that Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore and her team, especially Attorney Christina Dushaj , who fought for Sreeraj , by giving tougher punishment to the drunken driver Mario Garcia- Sura who fatally killed 19 year old Sreeraj Chandran, a college student, an excellent driver, hard working young man with a charming personality, only supporter of his mother Jaya Radha, who had a bright future. Sreeraj was an American citizen and we understand that Mario Garcia- Sura was an illegal immigrant, who had previous criminal records.

Here there are some questions arises, that is, when an American Citizen is killed by an illegal immigrant, is there any law to protect the families of the American citizens. I know Sreeraj's mother Jaya Radha very well, because she is my neighbor. She is an Indian American. She spent a huge sum of money for the funeral of Sreeraj, and I understand that she did not get any help from the government. It is a shame. At the same time illegal immigrants are getting all the benefits in New York. It is the time for us, all the American Citizens, to think about making laws to compensate the victims of drunk drivers by the government. We also planning to make a campaign against drunken drivers- " "DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE".
Along with my friends of Justice For All ( JFA) I was also present in the court on June 10th, at the time of sentencing by the Judge . Our sincere gratitude to Channel 12 team, especially Reporter Grace Noone, for interviewing Sreeraj's mother Jaya Radha, and others in our team, and reporting it on the TV on a timely manner. We also appreciate Judge Zambelli who sentenced Mario Garcia - Sura, up to the maximum punishment under the legal limit ,for aggravated vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated .

As the Chairman of Justice For All Inc., a National Registered Organization ( JFA), I would like to extend to my gratitude to all my friends who joined me with this effort. We are like " Servant Leaders" acting as the " Voice of the Voiceless".
