YONKERS, N.Y. -- A Yonkers man is being charged with first-degree assault after allegedly shooting his son on Tuesday, July 8, in their home following a heated argument, according to police.

Police spokesman Detective Lt. Patrick McCormack said officers responded to the two men's residence at 148 Rossiter Ave. at 4:30 p.m. and found the son, 30, with a gunshot wound in his left shoulder.

He was transported to an area trauma center, where he is currently in stable condition, McCormack said.

Following the initial investigation, police learned the victim was shot by his father, Barry Philip Sheehan, a 66-year-old who lives at the same address.

McCormack said a semiautomatic handgun was recovered from the scene. However, police are not yet sure what the argument was about.

He added that no picture will be released of Sheehan, as police are continuing to work through identification processes.
