YONKERS, N.Y. -- Fire Lt. Anthony Mangone, a veteran firefighter in the Yonkers Fire Department, died this week after serving more than two decades in the department. He was 48, according to a story on lohud.com.

Mangone joined the Yonkers Fire Department in November 1994 and spent his career working at Ladder Co. 71 in southwest Yonkers, according to lohud.com.

He was promoted to lieutenant in 2012 and most recently was assigned to special operations in the department. Mangone also spent much of his 21 years at the department involved in charity work, according to lohud.com.
