WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- An unidentified Westchester man is in the hospital fighting for his life, a second man was arrested and police were looking for others after a wild shootout early Friday in Stamford, police said.
Capt. Richard Conklin said the 24-year-old, whose exact town in Westchester has not been released, suffered multiple gunshots in the chest and was in grave condition late Friday morning in Stamford Hospital.
"It was quite a shootout," Conklin said about the exchange of gunfire in the area of Cedar and Henry Streets in the city's South End just before 12:40 a.m.
When officers arrived on the scene, the victim was lying on the roadway and was being comforted by his friend Juan Peralta, 25, of 735 Cove Road, police said.
Peralta and the victim had exchanged gunfire with another individual or group, police said. Peralta was charged with a number of firearms-related offenses and held on $250,000 bond, police said.
A semi-automatic handgun and a revolver were recovered at the scene, police said. They were in the possession of the victim and Peralta, police said.
Conklin said police suspect there may be a link between the shootout and a pair of gunshots fired near 702 S. Pacific St. just after 11 p.m. Thursday.
Conklin said officers recovered numerous shell casings at the scene and were continuing their investigation.
