A Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 20 in Putnam Valley attempted to offer an assist to Yorktown Heights resident Thomas Disieno, 36, when he spotted him stopped on Peekskill Hollow Road on the side of the road with his hazard lights on.

The Sheriff’s Deputy said that Disieno stated he was out of gas, though there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A computer check with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles found that Verrastro’s driver’s license had been suspended, leading to further investigation, which led to the seizure of five pounds of alleged marijuana, along with 35 packages of alleged concentrated cannabis oil for use in vaping devices.

Disieno was arrested at the scene and charged with felony counts of second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was also cited for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. Disieno is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
