YONKERS, N.Y. -- A 60-year-old man is recovering after being found inside a vacant burning building by Yonkers firefighters on Sunday, officials said.

Crews did a sweep of the house at 37 Dunbar St. despite it being vacant and found the man unresponsive on the second floor, according to News 12 Westchester.

The unidentified victim was taken to Westchester Medical Center for smoke inhalation and burns. He was in stable but critical condition as of Sunday night, YFD officials said.

Neighbors say the house has been vacant for roughly two years and has had a persistent problem with squatters, News 12 Westchester said.
