Firefighters responded to reports of a blaze at the two-story home at 83 Dartmouth Ave., at 11:40 p.m. They arrived three minutes later to find the kitchen area in flames.

“The quick response time was fortunate because it allowed us to make an aggressive attack and limit it to the kitchen area,” Deputy Chief John Flynn said.

There were no injuries to firefighters and the residents of the home escaped unharmed.  Firefighters, however, took three cats from the house. Only one survived.

While parts of the home suffered substantial water and smoke damage, Flynn said the residents have since been allowed to return.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the blaze but the chief said there is no reason to believe it was intentionally set.
