Both were taken to Westchester Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Westchester County police said the two vehicles were traveling northbound on the Bronx River Parkway when they collided about 8:40 a.m., near exit 8, in the northeast section of the city.
Both cars, a gold Chrysler Sebring and a red Chevy Tahoe, veered off the road. The Sebring was submerged up to its windows in the river while the Tahoe rolled onto its side on the river bank.
A county police officer waded into the water to rescue the driver of the Sebring, while the second driver was able to escape unassisted, police said.
Yonkers firefighters and police assisted county police with the accident. The cause is still under investigation.
