Teenage Girl Accidentally Shot While Playing With Gun, Yonkers Police Says

YONKERS, N.Y. - A 17-year-old Yonkers girl is recovering in stable condition in a Bronx hospital after being shot Wednesday morning, police said.

The shooting occurred inside an apartment at Crescent Avenue and Chester Place, police said. Detectives determined the victim and another 17-year-old female were playing with a handgun when it accidentally went off, striking the victim in the stomach.

The weapon has not been recovered at this time, but detectives are continuing the search.

The 17-year-old suspect was placed under arrest and charged with second-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
