Patrol officers from the Yonkers Police Department reported that they heard gunshots shortly after 11 p.m. on Tuesday night near the intersection of Herriot Street and Jackson Street. Officers responded to the area immediately and said that there were no victims or suspects present, prompting them to canvas the area.
Police said that officers canvassed the vicinity and local hospitals in an attempt to locate a suspect or victim, but not were found.
Detectives from the Major Case and Crime Scene Unit are investigating. The preliminary investigation yielded that three unknown suspects approached a group of people at the site of the shooting and two of them began openly firing in the direction of the group. The shooters then fled. Several parked cars suffered damage in the incident, but no victims have been reported.
According to poilce, this was not a random incident, and it is believed that the group was targeted by the shooters. The shooting came just hours before a 21-year-old Yonkers resident was shot in the jaw on Riverdale Avenue.
