The 20-year-old man, who was not identified, told police he was assaulted and stabbed two times by a group of men around 5:30 p.m. outside a home at 197 Valentine Lane.
The man is staying at Leake and Watts, along with 35 other teens and young men from the St. John’s Residence for Boys. The group has been staying in dorms at the Hawthorne Avenue center since being displaced from their Rockaway facility in October as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
On its website, St. John’s says it provides a “contemporary program serving boys and families at risk.”
Yonkers police said Sunday the man suffered two stab wounds to the back and was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment. A St. John’s employee said Sunday morning the man had returned to his residence on the Yonkers campus where he was recovering from his injuries.
Meredith Barber, a spokesperson for Leake and Watts, said Sunday they were aware of the incident but that the victim is not affiliated with the center.
