Police Apprehend Suspect Minutes After Bank Robbery In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Less than five minutes after a robbery was reported late Saturday morning at Key Bank on Main Street in Yonkers, police had taken a suspect into custody.

A male suspect walked into the Key Bank located at 66 Main Street, approached the teller, presented a note, displayed what appeared to be a handgun at about 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Yonkers Police said. 

The suspect then fled the bank with an undetermined amount of currency.

Yonkers Police Department Communications Division received a report of this robbery and immediately aired a description of the suspect to responding units. 

Uniformed personnel canvassing the area observed a possible suspect in the area of 80 Riverdale Avenue at 11:19 a.m., police said.

The suspect was detained and subsequently taken into custody.

Proceeds of the robbery were recovered from the suspect and he is expected to be charged with this robbery, police said.
