One Car Torched, One Damaged By Unknown Suspect Overnight In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. - Detectives in Yonkers are searching for a suspect who torched a car and damaged another overnight.

Members of the Yonkers Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a Yonkers residence on Chestnut Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Thursday night, where there was a report of a car fire in the area, Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said on Friday morning.

Upon arrival, threat emergency responders encountered an early model sedan engulfed in flames, which were quickly extinguished by firefighters. Politopoulos said that a second vehicle received incidental damage due to its proximity to the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Detectives from the Major Case and Crime Scene Units, as well as arson investigators are actively investigating the incident. Politopoulos said that the preliminary investigation has determined that one unknown suspect may have started the fire before fleeing.

Police described the suspect as an unknown man wearing dark clothing and a mask.
