Man Charged With DWI In Fatal Crash In Yonkers

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Westchester County Police formally charged on Wednesday a Mount Vernon man with Driving While Intoxicated in connection with a fatal accident that occurred Monday on the Cross County Parkway in Yonkers.

Hasani Ewan, 38, of South 12th Avenue was arraigned on the misdemeanor charge at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he was admitted following the one-car accident that occurred at 1:41 a.m.

The investigation into the accident is continuing and upgraded charges are possible.

Ewan was driving eastbound on the Cross County Parkway when his 2001 Honda Accord left the roadway and struck a bridge abutment to the Seminary Avenue pedestrian bridge. His passenger, Elouise Spears, 44, of Morrison Avenue, Bronx, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ewan is scheduled to appear in Yonkers City Court on Sept. 16.
