Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Attack In Yonkers

Police responded to a report of an assault in progress at a Ravine Avenue apartment building on Tuesday at approximately 7 p.m., officials report.

Officers entered an apartment and saw the suspect, later identified as Karmel Mills, a 40-year-old male, assaulting the victim, later identified as a 33-year-old male, according to police.

Officers restrained the suspect and took him into custody, officials report.

The victim was found to be unresponsive and officers began CPR, police report. Empress Ambulance personnel arrived and along with police revived the victim.

The victim was transported to a local trauma center where he was last reported in critical condition, according to police.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect, who live in separate apartments in the building, had a verbal dispute in the hallway, police report.

The victim then went into his apartment and closed the front door; at some point, the suspect forcibly entered the victim’s apartment through the front door and subsequently assaulted the victim, according to police.

A baseball bat is believed to have been used during the assault, officials report.

The suspect was scheduled to be arraigned in Yonkers Criminal Court on an attempted murder charge, police report.
