John Darcy took the oath of office as fire commissioner for the City of Yonkers. This ceremony took place  Wednesday afternoon in the mayor's reception room at Yonkers City Hall.

Many of Darcy's family and friends were in attendance, along with members of the Yonkers Fire Department to wish Darcy well.

On hand for the ceremony were Yonkers City Councilman Michael Sabatino, President of Local 628 Barry McGoey and UFOA Vice President Lt. Nick Scambia.

From 1896 to 1979 there were eight Chiefs of Department, and in 1979 the City Of Yonkers charter changed to allow a fire commissioner to lead the department.

Darcy is the 10th commissioner of the Yonkers Fire Department.

Darcy thanked Mayor Mike Spano for this opportunity to lead the Yonkers Fire Department.
