YONKERS, N.Y. -- The Yonkers Fire Department is continuing to investigate the cause of a two-alarm fire at 128 Colonial Parkway, which was reported at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and contained shortly thereafter, according to officials.

No one was injured in the fire, but residents were evacuated due to the severe amounts of smoke, which plummeted visibility in the cement-based building down to zero percent, according to Assistant Chief Larry Dunn.

Dunn said the fire was contained to the area of origin: a corner in the basement area by the front wall. The smoke was cleared out with ejector fans, and all residents were able to return to their apartments.

The fire is not being considered suspicious, according to Dunn.

"There was nothing different or peculiar to the scene," he said.
