YONKERS, N.Y. -- The family of a 36-year-old man who was fatally shot Tuesday by a police officer in Yonkers says he may have fled out of desperation, according to a story on Westchester News 12.

Miguel Espinal was killed after a police chase from the Bronx into Westchester, Westchester News 12 said.

According to police, officers were on patrol when they spotted a Nissan sedan driving recklessly. Police tried to stop the car, but Espinal refused to pull over, the story said.

Police said he then ran off into the woods, and a struggle occurred when the pursuing officers attempted to take him into custody, the story said. One officer's firearm was discharged and Espinal was shot Westchester News 12 said.
