The Yonkers Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to Waverly Street shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 31, following multiple reports of a car on fire, Police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, police discovered a sedan on fire in a parking lot, and a second vehicle parked next to it suffering secondary damage from the flames. The fire was quickly extinguished without incident, Politopoulos noted, and no injuries were reported - though several vehicles had broken windows following the incident.

Politopoulos said that the subjects responsible for the actions have been taken into custody, but due to their juvenile ages, no additional information will be released. According to a News12 report, the culprits were 8- and 9-year-old boys who set the car ablaze, and they may face charges for their roles in the fire.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. No charges have been filed as of Tuesday morning. Keep following Daily Voice for updates as they become available.
