YONKERS, N.Y. – Yolanda M. Smarrito, formerly of Yonkers, died Sunday, Aug. 26, at Merry Heart of Boonton in Boonton, N.J., where she was a resident for several years. She was 96.
The daughter of Joseph and Josephine Genovese Rossitto, she was married to John Smarrito, who died in 2004. Smarrito worked for Ritz's Dress Co. and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union for many years. She was also a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 596 in Mount Vernon.
Smarrito is survived by a daughter, Linda (James) Reeck; a son, Frederick J. Smarrito, and his friend, Maria Colon; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Rossitto; and two sisters, Fortunata Rossitto and Caroline Nobile.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Flower Funeral Home in Yonkers. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Yonkers. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
