William R. Begany, 85, Of Yonkers, Worked For American Sugar Refining Corp.

BARDONIA, N.Y. - William R. Begany of Bardonia, formerly of Yonkers, died Wednesday, Nov. 26. He was 85.

Begany was born Feb. 25, 1929, in Yonkers, to Stephen Begany and Evelyn (Yasko) Begany, he was a lifelong resident of Yonkers, until moving to Rockland County in 1995. He was employed by the American Sugar Refining Corp. of Yonkers as a research engineer, and also had a successful television repair business until his retirement. He was a member of the Haverstraw Elks, Lodge #877.

Begany is survived by his wife, Ruth Cook-Begany; step-daughter, Laureen Cook of Tarrytown; step-son, Kenneth Cook of New City; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 1 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Sorce Funeral Home. A church service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Pearl River, NY, with interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings on Hudson.
