Tuxie Oakley Myers, 98, Former Yonkers Resident

GARY, W. Va. - Tuxie Oakley Myers of Gary, and formerly of Yonkers, N.Y., died Friday, March 28. She was 98.

Myers was born Nov. 13, 1915, in North Carolina, she was the daughter of Grover C. and Allie Oakley. She was a graduate of Kimball High School. In the early 1950's, she joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Yonkers, where she became a member of the Senior Choir. She was a graduate of Apex Beauty School, New York.

Myers is survived by her sister, Ida (Nathaniel) Blair of Yonkers; nephew, Donald (Robin) Oakley; niece, Geraldine Oakley of Ga.; sister-in-law, Mildred Oakley of Yonkers; other nephews, nieces; and church family. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Harrison S. Myers; and seven siblings.

Service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 175 Nepperhan Ave., Yonkers, N.Y., with the Rev. Dr. Carl J. Bruce and the Rev. Willa Mae King, officiating. Entombment will be Tuesday, April 8 in W. Va.
