Robert M. Sutton, 73, Retired Teacher, Coach At Lincoln High School

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Robert M. Sutton,  “Coach Sutton”, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died Sept. 7. He was 73.

Sutton was born Jan. 26, 1941, in New Rochelle, to Thomas and Josephine (Rispole) Sutton.

He was a social studies teacher at Walt Whitman School in Yonkers from 1964 to 1967, then at Lincoln High School in Yonkers from 1968 to 1998, where he also coached football and girls basketball. He also coached lacrosse at Scarsdale High School and Iona College. He was the president of The Foresters Club Court Sons of Italy in New Rochelle.

Sutton is survived by his children, Kristin (Scott) Sutton Hillman, Amy (Donn) Sutton McNamee and Beau Sutton; four grandchildren; andhis  brother, Thomas Sutton. 

Calling hours are Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc., 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at St. Joseph’s Church, 280 Washington Ave., New Rochelle. Interment will be private.
