Robert McInerney, 74, Retired Officer, Of Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. – Robert McInerney of Yonkers died Dec. 1. He was 74.

He was born July 23, 1938, in Yonkers to Daniel and Mary Smith McInerney. Raised in Yonkers, he graduated from Sacred Heart High School. McInerney worked as a New York City police officer for 20 years and was stationed at Midtown North. He retired in 1983.

McInerney then worked in the security division of Yonkers Raceway for more than 25 years. An Army veteran, he served in Germany. On Oct. 31, 1992, he married Jane Hunt in Spring Lake, N.J. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and a founding member of the 140 Club in Yonkers.

He is survived by his wife; four children, Kevin (Jen) McInerney, of Pleasantville, Lauren (Todd) Bailey, of Vermont, Denise (Alex) Harris, of Yonkers, and Doreen (James) Campbell, of Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Clare Holland, of Utah; a sister-in-law, Joan McInerney; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Rose Marie Linehan; and a brother, Daniel McInerney.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday at Sacred Heart Church. Whalen & Ball Funeral Home in Yonkers handled arrangements.
