Retired Yonkers Fire Department Captain David J. Roberts Dies At 62

YONKERS, N.Y. -- David J. Roberts, a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Tuesday, March 15. He was 62.

Born in Queens, Roberts was raised and educated in Yonkers, graduating from Gorton High School. He then attended the Engine City Technical School in Union, New Jersey. He was a captain in the Yonkers Fire Department, where he worked for 29 years, until he retired in 2010.

He was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Church. He enjoyed bowling, playing golf and going to NASCAR races.

Roberts is survived by his wife, Maria Mascolo; children Jamie Delango and her husband Denis, and David Roberts and his wife Dana and Kristy Roberts, all of Yonkers; and grandchildren Jenna, Adrianna, Joseph, Alanna and Aubrey.

He was predeceased by his parents, David and Veronica Roberts, and his siblings, Stephen Roberts and Sandra Tamas.

Visiting hours began Thursday evening, March 17, and continue on Friday, from 3-9 p.m., at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave., in Yonkers. A mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, at St. Anthony's Church. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
