YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers resident Paul Francis Heffernan died Tuesday, Dec. 22. He was 56.

Heffernan worked for many years as a heating and cooling engineer with several companies in and around Westchester.

He loved travel and enjoyed exploring exotic places around the globe, including Jamaica, Bali, Thailand and Mexico. He loved the great outdoors, hiking, camping and rafting. He once undertook "a solo trip hiking the Adirondack Trail for six weeks, surviving bears and recalcitrant weather," according to obituary information from Whalen & Ball Funeral Home.

Heffernan is survived by his brother Rob Heffernan and sister-in-law Donna of Fairlawn, N.J.; sister Moira Heffernan Salvatore of Somerset, N.J.; sister Julie Heffernan Manco and brother-in-law Roger of Hastings-on-Hudson; nieces Genevieve Manco of Denver, Colo., and Colette Manco of Wilmington, Del.; grandniece Aaralyn Pedicone of Wilmington; and uncle Bill McGinnis and wife Agnes of Mentor, Ohio.

He was predeceased by his parents Bob Heffernan and Genevieve McGinnis Heffernan; and a sister Marie de Lourde Heffernan.

Visiting hours will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave., Yonkers.
