Michael Joseph McGrail, 92, Of Yonkers, Coach, Henry S. Richards Club

YONKERS, N.Y. - Michael Joseph McGrail, Sr. of Yonkers died July 28. He was 92.

McGrail was born in Ballinamore, County Leitrim, Ireland, to Michael and Bridget (McCaffrey) Mc Grail. He served in the United States Corps of Engineers during World War II in the European Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a life member of Local Dock builders/Carpenters Union 1456. A parishioner of St. Eugene's since 1954, Sunday usher over 50 years and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He coached over 40 years at Henry S Richards Club and became known as the Founding Father of Yonkers Little League Soccer. He was inducted into the Yonkers Sports Hall of Fame in 1992.

McGrail is survived by his wife, Aline (nee Ambrose); children, Thomas (Eileen), James (Nancy), Michele (Paul) Gerstemeier, Sean (Karen), Mary (David) Purdy, Michael, Jr. (Michael Kay), Patricia (John) Flynn, Aline; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen Barkley and Rosaleen Sweeney; 85 nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Charles; sisters, Mary, Margaret Carney; and brother, Marine Sgt. John Patrick McGrail.

Calling hours are Wednesday, July 30 and Thursday, July 31 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 1 at St. Eugene's Church, Yonkers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rosary Hill Home or Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care.
