Mary Sarich, 88, Former Yonkers Resident

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - Mary Sarich of Yorktown Heights, formerly of Yonkers, died Oct. 13. She was 88.

Sarich was born June 30, 1926, to John and Eva (Elko) Schurick, in Yonkers, where she was a lifelong resident. She moved to Yorktown Heights with her husband in September 2013. She graduated from the Yonkers High School of Commerce in 1944. She was a volunteer and then employed by the Yonkers Board of Education as a school library aid at P.S #25 until she retired in 1983 after over 15 years of service.

Sarich is survived by her daughter, Sandra Ruyack (Ray) of Brewster; two grandchildren; brother Nickolas Schurick of Yonkers; many nieces and nephews; and grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter; sisters, Rose Grabowicz, Catherine Macko and Ann Schurick all of Yonkers; and brothers, Andrew, Peter, Michael and John.

Calling hours are Thursday, Oct. 16 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home. Parastas will be held Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7:45 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17 in St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
