YONKERS, N.Y. -- Maria Costa (nee Neves), 94, a longtime Yonkers resident, died Saturday July 18, 2015 at the Andrus Home in Hastings-on-Hudson.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1921, to John S. and Maria J.P. De Resende in Plymouth, Mass. She was raised and educated in Portugal. She was a dressmaker at the Woodhaven Dress Company in Yonkers for 30 years until her retirement in 1987.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Yonkers and was a volunteer at the church.
She married her husband, Simeao Costa in Portugal. He died in 1986.
Survivors include one daughter, Isabel Costa of New Windsor, and three sons, Manuel Da Costa of Tennessee, Anthony Costa of Florida and Victor Costa of New Jersey. She also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Teresa De Fatima Costa, a son, Jose Costa and a sister, Leonilda Rodrigues.
Visiting hours will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Christ the King Church, 740 N Broadway. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
