Louis Larizza Jr., 26, Ex-Westchester Basketball Star, Division I Player

Louis "Louie" Larizza, Jr., a lifelong resident of Port Chester and a star basketball player in high school who went on to play and coach at the Division I collegiate level, died Sunday, April 2. He was 26.

He was born June 15, 1990 in Port Chester to Louis and Nella Tedesco Larizza. He graduated from Port Chester High School in 2008. and then went on to play  Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J., as a 5-foot-7 guard.

He was Port Chester's all-time leader in assists, three-point field goals and free-throw percentage. A two-year team captain at Port Chester, Larizza helped lead the Rams to three Westchester County Championships.

He graduated in 2012 with a degree in communications and became a site manager for Lazz Development in Port Chester. He was strength coach for Manhattan College basketball team.

He is survived by his parents Louis and Nella Larizza of Port Chester, maternal grandmother Anna Tedesco of Port Chester, sister Jenna Larizza of Port Chester, brother Mouhamed Lo of Port Chester, aunts Gina Larizza Ditrio and husband Tony of Norwalk, Conn.,. and Renee Larizza of Stamford, Conn., uncles Mark Larizza of Port Chester. and Joseph Tedesco and wife Karen of Greenwich, Conn., and several cousins.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Thursday April 6 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 260 Westchester Ave. in Port Chester.

Entombment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rye Brook.
