Joseph LaRocco, 99, Lifelong Yonkers Resident

YONKERS, N.Y. – Joseph A. LaRocco, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died Friday, Oct. 19. He was 99.

Born April 17, 1913, he was the son of Rocco and Mary Pistone LaRocco. He was married to Virginia Ciriello LaRocco, with whom he celebrated 75 years of marriage on Sept. 5. He was employed by Shetfield Farms, later known as Sealtest, for 30 years.

LaRocco then worked at The Graham School and later its affiliate, the Greenburgh Graham School, for 27 years. He was also one of the founding members of the Palisades Athletic Club of Yonkers.

He was active in the American Legion Frank A. Rea Post. A Navy veteran, he served during World War II and was selected as a New York Senate Veterans Hall of Fame honoree by then-Sen. Nick Spano in 2005.

LaRocco is survived by two children, Rocco (Theresa) and Virginia LaRocco; a sister, Katherine; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren He was predeceased by eight siblings, Frank, Salvatore, Nick, Louis, Josephine, Anunzietta, Mary and Tomasina.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Flower Funeral Home in Yonkers. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann's Church in Yonkers. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale.

Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
