John Panko, 90, Lifelong Yonkers Resident, Navy Veteran

YONKERS, N.Y. - John Panko, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died Wednesday, March 19. He was 90.

Panko was born Oct. 22, 1923, to Steven and Martha Panko in Yonkers where he was raised and educated, graduating from Saunders Trade and Technical School in 1942. He was a machinist at the DeLackner Helicopter Co. in Mt. Vernon from 1947 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of UAW Local #259 in Ft. Lee, N.J. He served in the U.S. Navy-Aviation Metalsmith from 1943 to 1946. He was a 2nd Class SV6 and was stationed in San Diego and Pearl Harbor. He was a longtime parishioner and usher at St. Nicholas of Myra Church.

Panko is survived by his son, Mark Panko (Joan) of Hopewell Junction; daughters, Cathy Panko-Drought (Robert) of Port Chester and Janet Panko of Scarsdale; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by wife, Ann; and brother, Stephen Panko.

Calling hours are Friday, March 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home . Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. in St. Nicholas of Myra Church, White Plains. Final disposition will be private.
