Joan Marie Magratten, 79, Lifelong Yonkers Resident

YONKERS, N.Y. – Joan Marie Magratten, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, died Oct. 12. She was 79.

Magratten was predeceased by her parents, William A. and Mary (nee Zielinski) Magratten, and her brother, William J. Magratten.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ellen Magratten, and two nephews, Mathew and Andrew Magratten.

Her devoted cousin, Alberta Blasewitz, and a host of friends, will miss her friendship, love and kindness.

Magratten was a graduate of the St. Casimir School, Gorton High School in Yonkers, and Fordham University in the Bronx. She also earned a master's degree at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa.

Magratten worked for a brief time at Union Carbide Corp. in the accounting department. She later became an educator, teaching at Good Counsel College in White Plains.

Magratten ended her career as an award- winning professor at the Pace University Lubin School of Business in Pleasantville.

Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Flynn Memorial Home Inc., 1652 Central Park Ave., Yonkers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, 1405 Nepperhan Ave., Yonkers.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers.

Memorial donations may be made to Sisters of the Resurrection, 35 Boltwood Ave., Castleton-on-Hudson, NY 12033.
