Harold R. Cowen, 79, Yonkers Native Worked As Steamfitter

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Harold R. Cowen of Yonkers died Monday, Jan. 19. He was 79.

Cowen was born on May 1, 1935, to Harold and Frances (Marziotti) Cowen in Yonkers, where he was raised and graduated from Saunders High School.  He was a steamfitter for over 50 years, retiring in 1995. On May 31, 1958, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Landy in Sacred Heart Church.

Harold was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and served in the Army. He was stationed in Germany.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Elizabeth (Anthony) Cartolano, Robert (Jennifer) Cowen, Elaine (Richard) Gardner and Nancy (Mark) Saia. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Annette Morrill.

Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
