Gerard P. Travis, 61, Lifelong Yonkers Resident

YONKERS, N.Y. — Lifelong Yonkers resident Gerard P. Travis died on Tuesday, May 17. He was 61. 

Travis served two tours in Vietnam in the U.S. Navy as part of the Navy's Special Warfare UDT Grave & Registration team, ranking at Petty Officer 3rd Class. 

Upon his discharge, he worked as an area maintenance operator for the U.S.P.S., where he was known as "Popeye." 

In addition to his mother, Julia Travis, he also is survived by his wife, Doreen; his children, Gerard and Jessica; his sister, Julia Pataky, as well many nieces and nephews. 

Travis was predeceased by his father, Gerard S. Travis.

Donations in his memory can be made to the ASPCA, American Brain Tumor Foundation or the Red Dog Fund. 

A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 at St. Ann's Church, in Yonkers with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, in Yonkers. 

The family will be present from 4-8 p.m., on Friday, May 20 at F. Ruggiero & Sons, Inc., 732 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, NY 10704.
