Florence Maleska, 91, Former Yonkers Resident, Retired Bookkeeper

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Florence Maleska, 91, of Hebron, N.H., formerly of Yonkers, died Tuesday, April 21.

She was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Yonkers to the late Martin and Emma Sivco.

Maleska worked as a bookkeeper at the Ward Leonard Electric Co. during World War II. She then worked as a junior accountant for Yonkers Public Schools from 1965-85.

She was a lifelong member of Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church.

She served in the Sodality of Mary and was the corresponding secretary for the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Maleska of Hebron, N.H., and Susan (Ronald) Hodgdon of Foxboro, Mass.; one sister, Helen Syso of Dobbs Ferry; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Raymond A. Maleska, and six siblings, preceded her in death.

Calling hours will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 24, at the Whalen and Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park St., Yonkers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 18 Trinity St., Yonkers.

Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, 50 Jackson Ave., Hastings-On-Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Villa Sacred Heart, 580 Railroad St., Danville, PA 17821.
