Elaine A. Murphy, 88, Former Yonkers Resident

BREWSTER, N.Y. - Elaine A. Murphy of Brewster, formerly lived in the Bronx and Yonkers, died Nov. 5. She was 88.

Murphy was born June 23, 1926, to Albert and Agnes Hanner, in Mt. Vernon. She attended Mt. Vernon High School, and after graduation worked as a secretary for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. She married Martin Murphy and lived with her family in the Bronx and later in Yonkers. She has lived in Brewster for the past 45 years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Brewster, volunteering for the Food Pantry and working with the Vestry Committee. In  later years, she and her husband Martin ran the Video Haven video store in Danbury, Conn.

Murphy is survived by her children, Richard, of Patterson, Thomas of New Milford, Conn., and Janet Miller of Brookfield, Conn.; brother, Albert, of Long Island; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 26 Prospect St., Brewster. Burial will follow at Milltown Cemetery, 89 Milltown Road, Brewster. All are invited back to the church for a reception, after the burial.
