YONKERS, N.Y. -- Doris Starro (Thorn), of Yonkers, died Sunday, March 8. She was 91.
Starro was born Sept. 1, 1923, to Leroy and Ellen (Brazel) Thorn in Yonkers, where she was raised, attended local schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School.
On July 16, 1950, she married the late Thomas J. Starro Sr. at St. Bartholomew's Church.
Starro was a parishioner of St. Bartholomew's and did volunteer work for the Yonkers PTA and the Bryn Mawr Boys Club.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Mary) and Michael (Anne Marie) Starro. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Tommy, Kevin, Marissa, Michael, Patrick and Mariah; and three great-grandchildren Julianna, Kevin and Stella; her niece Ellen Krasnow and many other nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Leroy Thorn; and two sisters, Miriam Hickey and Ruth Pitzer.
Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home Wednesday, March 11, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew's Church on Thursday, March 12, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
