ELMSFORD N.Y. - Dolores Bencivengo of Elmsford died Tuesday March 26. She was 46.
Bencivengo was born in the Bronx and raised in Yonkers. She attended Lincoln High School and received her B.S. and M.S. from Mercy College. She was working toward a second M.S. with a dream of a Ph.D.
She was a math teacher at Lincoln High School in Yonkers. Dolores was involved in many organizations, including S.T.E.M. (Science & Tech Program), Mercy Mentoring Program for Teacher Interns, various curriculum committees, S.L.C. (Small Learning Community), P.T.S.A. (Parent Teacher Student Association), Y.F.T. (Yonkers Federation of Teachers), A.F.T. (American Federation of Teachers), A.M.N.Y.S. (Association of Mathematics, NY State) and also a member of Math Museum.
Bencivengo and her sister began a fundraising campaign to bring awareness to ovarian cancer with teal ribbons and a brochure depicting warning signs and information on the disease. She raised thousands of dollars for the Ovarian Cancer Translation Project.
Bencivengo is survived by her husband, Corey J. Noriega, Sr.; children, Angelina R. and Corey J. Noriega, Jr. of Elmsford, N.Y.; sister Lorraine Bencivengo-Ziff (Larry); brothers Michael C. (Vivian Bordon) and Charles V. Bencivengo, Jr. (Tara).
Calling hours will be held Wednesday March 27 from 2:30 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m. at F. Ruggiero & Sons, Inc. - 732 Yonkers Ave. - Yonkers, N.Y. 10704 (914) 375-1400. Funeral Services are Friday March 29 at 10:15 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Angelina and Corey Noriega, Jr. College Fund.
