Betty M. Giannelli, 89, Yonkers Resident

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Betty M. Giannelli, of Yonkers, died Saturday, July 4, at age 89.

She was born July 4, 1926, to James and Catherine (Norgate) Denness in Winchester, England, where she was raised and educated. On Aug. 16, 1947, she married Joseph Giannelli in Sacred Heart Church.

Giannelli worked for H.M. Stevens at Yonkers Raceway for more than 30 years, then did volunteer work for St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers as an accounting clerk for 24 years. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and an avid Yankee fan.

Her husband died on Dec. 2, 2012.

She is survived by three sons, Joseph (Tina), Denis (Marge) and Tony (Mary Beth) Giannelli; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her brother, James Denness; and her sister, Daphene (Cyril) Smith.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Peggy, Pat and Happy.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday at 9:30am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
