Barney Lavelle, 85, Of Yonkers, Worked With Whitehall/Wyeth Pharmaceuticals

OSSINING, N.Y. - Barney Lavelle, an Ossining resident, died Friday July 26. He was 85.

Lavelle was born July 19, 1928, in NYC, to Bernard and Ann (McAliney) Lavelle. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and St. John's University. He served as a China marine from 1946 to 1948. He had a successful career with Whitehall/Wyeth Pharmaceuticals from 1969 to 1995 as director of Marketing and Sales Promotion and received the Wyeth Presidential Award. He and his wife lived and raised their five children in Yonkers.

He was active in the community especially at St John the Baptist where he was president of the Holy Name Society as well as director and coach of the Children's Sports Program. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, China Marine Society, VFW and the American Legion.

Lavelle is survived by his wife, MaryEllen; children, Patricia Calderone, Brian Lavelle, Jay Lavelle, Dennis Lavelle and Marianne McInerney; their spouses, Michael Calderone, Linda Wagen, Laura Lavelle, Melanie Lavelle and Christopher McInerney; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Peter Lavelle and Myles Lavelle; and 22 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eileen; sister, Mary Butler; and brother, James.

Calling hours are Monday, July 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Waterbury Kelly, 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30 at St Theresa Church, 1394 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
